Samburu Game Reserve

Samburu Game Reserve is situated in the hot and arid fringes of Kenya's vast Northern Frontier District. The area is home to the Samburu tribe, pastoral relatives of the Masai. The landscape is rugged and dramatic - against a backdrop of volcanic mountains, gaunt hills and withered scrub tree punctuate the sparse and dry terrain with clusters of the incredibly hardy desert rose providing the occasional flash of vivid colour. The Ewaso Nyiro river, lifeline of the area, runs along the southern boundary dividing Samburu from Buffalo Springs Reserve. Crocodile and hippo share the river with the many small herds of elephant which bathe and frolic in the muddy brown waters during the heat of the day before returning later to browse on the lush vegetation of the riverine forest. Buffalo, lion, leopard, cheetah and plains game may also be seen but a special feature of this Reserve are the various species of game unique to these northern parks - Beisa Oryx, the long necked gerenuk, Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe and the blue shanked Somali ostrich. Samburu Reserve covers an area of 104 km2 on the northern bank of Uaso Nyiro river. The reserve has a unique landscapes of rounded and rugged hills and undulating plains.

AAS 03 : 3 Days Samburu Wildlife lodge safari

A safari to the north via the high shoulder of Mountain Kenya to the Game Reserve of Samburu. Here the Ewaso Nyiro River supports a wide variety of game among them elephant, buffalo, cheetah leopard, lion, grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, oryx and the long necked gerenuk. This park is popular for the 3 cats.

 

Day 1: Nairobi - Samburu game reserve

Pick up from your hotel at 0730hrs.Safari Briefing  and passing the majestic Mt. Kenya en route to the open savannah of Samburu Game Reserve arriving in good time for lunch at a lodge .Here we find  palms and woodland by the Ewaso Nyiro River which provides water for the animals and some relief from the equatorial sun.Late afternoon game drive.

 Dinner and overnight stay at Samburu Sopa Lodge.

 

Day 2: Samburu game reserve

Breakfast at the lodge.Full day in Samburu with picnic lunch.optional visit to Samburu villages.  The highlights of Samburu game reserve is the spectacular scenic beauty, rivers and forests. It is an area where the local people have a rich and colorful heritage. The reserves have numerous permanent springs and a wealth of wildlife which includes leopard, hippo, elephant, lion, reticulated giraffe, grevy�s zebra and crocodile in the Ewaso Nyiro River. Over 365 species of birds have been identified in the sanctuaries.

 

Day 3: Samburu - Nairobi;

Early Morning Game Drive.Breakfast at the Lodge. After breakfast depart for Nairobi arriving in the afternoon where the tour ends.Drop off at the Airport for your flight back home..

Museum,Lunch at Carnivore Restaurant)
